REVIEW // The Pretty Reckless – Just Tonight

Taylor Momsen, that’s surely a name we all hear about regularly. Famously known for her role as Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl, Taylor Momsen follows her true passion for music and fronts rock band The Pretty Reckless. She’s made headlines a lot over the past year, for good or for worse? Well that’s down to interpretation. Stripper heels and flashing at shows, this seventeen year old wild child is grabbing our attention.

The Pretty Reckless formed in 2009 and also includes lead guitarist Ben Phillips, bassist Mark Damon and drummer Jamie Perkins. After touring Warped Tour in May they released their debut single “Make Me Wanna Die” which had a lot of mixed reactions in the press and over the internet.  Despite that, it managed to stay at number one for 6 weeks in the UK Rock Chart. Their second single titled “Miss Nothing” released in early August was another hit despite many people frowning upon her blacked eyes and stripper heels in the video at such a young age.  The Pretty Reckless opened for V festival this summer, and followed with the release of their debut album “Light Me Up” in August 2010, which has been a huge success and their latest single off the album is “Just Tonight.” The new single is about being stuck in a relationship; this mixed with heavy guitar chords, catchy drum beats and Momsen’s unmistakable vocals, it’s clear that this will be The Pretty Reckless’ third big hit single.

I personally give Taylor credit for her antics and not caring what the press think of her, good on her to be so bold, not many teenage girls have the guts. In her acoustic version of “Just Tonight” filmed by NME, you hear Momsen’s raw voice and she has wowed fans and even some of her haters with just how good she actually is. However, despite all of this hysteria over whether she’s a bad role model for teenage girls and leaving us wondering just what will she do next? There is one thing you cannot deny, she is one talented musician.

“Just Tonight” will be released 13th December alongside her UK tour.

December 13th – Glasgow – Barrowland

December 14th – Manchester – Manchester Academy

December 15th – Wolverhampton – Wolverhampton Wulfrun

December 16th – London – O2 Shepherds Bush Empire
