I wasn’t expecting to be heading down to see the Kaisers Chiefs tonight. After I had received an unexpected message from Cait, I rushed out of bed and quickly got dressed then headed down to the Academy. The last time I have actually listened to a Kaiser Chiefs song was in a small night club in Munich back in 2007. This would be the first time I have seen them live, so I was eager to get there as quickly as possible after double checking and triple checking that Cait definitely couldn’t make it.
The supporting acts were the Fixers then later All The Young. Both bands aren’t really well-known or so I think. The Fixers had some very psychedelic tunes can’t really say they are my cup of tea. All The Young are a small band from Staffordshire they seemed like a fun band generally messing around up on stage. They had some technical issues with the drum kit as the lead singer Ryan Dooley thanked the crowd for being patient and kind to them. Ryan jokingly saying ‘I would have left after the first song’
After a short break and equipment change the lights darkened and we all knew it was time for the Kaiser Chiefs to play. There was short pause then the humming beat of the song ‘Everyday I Love You Less and Less ‘ building up the suspense as the lights flashed on the Kaiser Chiefs rushed on stage. Lead singer Ricky Wilson grabs the mic and throws himself forwards, putting on a very energetic performance throwing the mic stand up into the air! While the rest of the band were all composed and calm with themselves letting Wilson do his thing.
There were a few songs played from their forthcoming album ‘Start The Revolution Without Me‘ which I haven’t heard yet. I wasn’t so keen on them and prefer their older stuff I don’t think many people have heard their latest material as the crowd weren’t really singing along like they did with Chiefs older songs. Throughout the night Wilson gets the crowd dancing and chanting along playing classics, Modern Way, Angry Mob and of course I predict a Riot! The crowd went crazy beer cups flying up in the air everyone trying to out jump each other almost as bad as the time when I went to see Slayer and got stuck in a mosh pit.
If you have never been to a Kaiser Chiefs gig before like me I would highly recommend grabbing a ticket, you definitely won’t be disappointed! Their forthcoming album is out next month aswell so be sure to buy a copy when you can.
